OPEN UP TO ME
SS23
This collection focuses on the beauty of the historically unseen. She combines the physical with the emotional as she explores how opening up to a person can put you in your most vulnerable state, this being similar to being seen in your undergarments. Shirts during the 18th century were always seen as a simple layer and never the completed garment, however the beauty and detail that adorned these garments were a work of art. Each layer held so much value even if they were not put on display. Why were they being concealed? These garments held so much importance yet would cause a scandal if they were put on display. Likening this to human emotion what we keep concealed is what we don’t want to put on display. Our deepest secrets, our hidden thoughts, and our fear of judgement hide beneath our skin which hides beneath our clothing. She explores how opening up to someone impacts your life and the emotional battels that are a consequence of it. The clothing that reveals detail on the inside of the garments symbolise the voluntary and or involuntary sharing of ones secrets. Who should you reveal to, skin or heart?
